Biographical / Historical

Several members of the Adenaw family owned property in Litchfield. Julius K. Adenaw and his wife Louise C. Arthur Adenaw began renting property in town in the summers beginning in the 1880s. He worked as a professor of Columbia University in New York. In 1917, Louise purchased the Tallmadge Store on North Street which they had rented during several previous summers. She died in 1920, and Julius followed in 1921.
