Biographical or Historical Information
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a patriotic organization whose objects are perpetuating the memory and spirit of the patriots of the American Revolution and teaching the ideals of American institutions and the duties of the American citizenship to the upcoming generation.
The Litchfield, Conn., chapter of the D.A.R. is named for Mary Floyd Tallmadge (1764-1805), the wife of Col. Benjmain Tallmadge. An army officer, chief intelligence officer, and organizer of the Culper spy ring during the Revolutionary War, Tallmadge became a businessman and U.S. Representative from Connecticut in Congress after the war. The Mary Floyd Tallmadge Chapter was organized in 1899.
