Scope and Contents

16th (Sixteenth) Regiment Orderly Book (2011-88-0) is a collection of orders for the 16th Regiment of the Connecticut State Infantry. Three items are inserted in the front of the volume. The first is a Regimental Order from Col. Joseph Birge Jr. and William E. Dickinson (Birge’s Adjutant) to Ezra H. Churchill. Folded with this order is a slip of the enrolled men of the regiment from October 10th, 1843. The thirditem is a second Regimental Order from Dickinson. The volume contains orders for the regiment to assemble for inspection, exercises, and drills. There are also charts for organizing the number of men or there supplies. Some charts list the names of everyone in the regiment on one axis and one the other list supplies such as swords, muskets, bayonet, cartridges, fife, etc and note how many of each item each person was assigned and a total at the bottom of the page. Currently housed in 3A Box 18.
