Giles Gibbs, Jr. His Book For The Fife (1974-86-0) is an edited version of the original Giles Gibbs, Jr. manuscript held in the Connecticut Historical Society collections. The edited book contains a brief biography of Gibbs, and gives a brief description of the original commonplace book that Gibbs used to record fife music in. He completed the book within a short span of time, probably entirely during the summer of 1777. The item is currently housed in 3A Box 17.

Biographical or Historical Information
Giles Gibbs, Jr. was born in East Windsor, new Ellington, Connecticut in 1760. There is evidence that he served in the Revolutionary War as a fifer between 1777 and 1780. He was captured and killed by a raiding party under British command in Royalton, Vermont in October, 1780.
