Biographical / Historical

Litchfield, CT citizens were active in raising funds for African American schools and colleges in the late 1800s-early 1900s. Afican American and Indigenous students from Hampton Institute (now Hampton University, a private, historically black, research university that was founded in 1868 as Hampton Agricultural and Industrial School) of Hampton, VA, performed at private homes in Litchfield.
