Biographical / Historical

According to the donor of the speech, Edward Fitch Hall owned property on South Street in Litchfield and decided to divide off a piece of his land and build a house on it for a family from Jamaica in an effort to increase the town's diversity. His proposal was turned down by the Historic District Commission and he gave this talk at an appeal meeting. The donor noted that the Commission did eventually approve it and build the house and that the family is still in the area.
