Content Description
Letter from Clarissa Norton to her brother William Norton written from Litchfield on various dates from October to December 1839 and photograph of William Norton. A typewritten transcription donated with the letter is also in the folder. Clarissa was about 20 years old when the letter was written, and William would have been 28. She provides a detailed account of her life in Litchfield including social activities, singing in Church, and friends and family. At the time she wrote, William was travelling in the West selling clocks. It was addressed to Independence, MO and then forwarded to Lansing, MO.

Condition Description
There are tears along fold lines that appear to have been mended with scotch tape. Tape has since yellowed.
