Huntington provides details about politics at the Connecticut Legislature; Newgate prison is abolished and the state will erect a new jail in Wethersfield; Samuel A. Foot is likely to win the Senate seat; reports of other office seeking and writes cynically comments about the number of supposedly great men who boast of their qualifications; discusses the failure of the Eagle and Derby Bank; the legislature will not charter new banks this session; the building of the canal in Hamden is progressing; discuss the contest between the New Haven Canal Company and the Connecticut River Company over the building of the canal; longs to leave the legislature and join the Wolcott’s at their home; does not go to social occasions and therefore cannot inform the girls of the latest fashion.
