Matthew Carey thanks Frederick Wolcott for the Lyman Beecher sermon; calls it the most important treatment of American manufacturers since Hamilton’s Report on Manufacturers; rejoices that the pulpit is giving voice to the interests of manufacturers; bemoans the failure of the American democracy to enact an effective industrial policy.
