Writes his sister at various points in his journey from Lynchburg to Litchfield. From the canal boat "John Early" on the James River to Richmond he discusses the presidential candidates and his support for General Taylor. From Washington and Baltimore he writes of his steamboat trip from Richmond to Washington and losing some of his luggage along the way. Details of sightseeing in Washington, including going to the top of the Washington Monument. Gives details of his new teaching position in New York.
