Scope and Contents
Hears news of sinking of the Steamboat Atlantic, in which one half of the passangers died. Thomas Flournoy of Charlotte, VA, is coming to offer him a teaching job, which he accepts and provides details of. Writes about his first experience in physical punishment of students. Plans to teach for Mr. Flournoy for two or three years at least. Gives his opinions of slavery and the welfare of blacks in America as opposed to Africa. Details of his plans for the future. Copies an extract of Daubigne's "History of the Reformation."
