Grant, Hannah to Grant, Harriet Lucretia, undated
Item 4
Scope and Contents
Two letters to Hannah's daughter Harriet. The first was written by Hannah's son David, copied by Hannah because David lacked time to do it himself. It includes details of his visit to New York city where he saw several shows including "Cinderella" and "Down East." On his way home from a horse race in Brooklyn, he got in a fight with a gang of Irishmen, managing to escape relatively unscathed. A note is included from Hannah giving a fanciful account of a cornfield. The second letter is from Hannah to Harriet reprimanding her for poor letter writing technique and manners, and requesting immediate improvement. Several remarks on Methodist church services her daughter attended. A short note from Hannah's son John is included (copied by Hannah as well).
