Notes pleasure that she is recovering; says that they cannot raise the funds for Betsey Collins school but that Miss Wallace may keep school in Miss Kirby's office; notes that he hopes she has determined a name for their child (Laura Maria Wolcott Rankin). Gives domestic news; Miss Chandler has taken care of many food chores; makes note that he has hired The Culver girl and the "black girl" will come if she is wanted. Mentions the departure of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Collier who are to stay with their son in New York; other news of family and friends.
